Do Not Watch Alone

STORIES about weird CREATURES and even weirder KIDS.

10 x 15 Episodes I 9 to 13 Years I Live-Action I Comedy/Horror

Series Overview

Killer cyborg teachers, brain sucking aliens attacking your home, toxic laundry dragging you into another dimension, you have been warned…

DO NOT WATCH ALONE!

This comedy/horror series is designed for a young audience (9-13) who are in search of something a little bit scary but fun at the same time.

The aim of the show is to have a highly stylistic approach, both aesthetically and narratively where each episode is a stand alone piece, unique in look and style while having the solid grounding of classic monster movies as a theme for inspiration.

Do Not Watch Alone will look to the stellar anthology television of the last few years (Black Mirror, Love, Death and Robots, Guillermo del Toro's Cabinet of Curiosities. etc.) and attempt to channel that style and quality, albeit in a much lighter tone, for a younger audience.

Every episode will incorporate a supernatural element but we are not tied down to one particular genre. Series 1 consists mainly of Comedy, Horror and Science Fiction but the beauty of having standalone episodes gives us the opportunity to explore other genres in future series; Noir, Action, Romance, Neo-Nordic-Futurism, the sky's the limit.

Our Heroes

Every protagonist will be around 12 years of age and that protagonist will have some sort of issue that they are grappling with. That issue will manifest itself as a creature of some sort, e.g...

  • Fear of abandonment - “My parents' brains are taken over by mind controlling aliens.”

  • Authority issues - “That teacher hates me, she has to be a robot!”

  • Big changes - “If the Tooth Fairy is real I have to prove it!”

We confront these themes in a bold and inventive way, speaking to children at their own level. Having these relatable issues that the young characters have to deal with, contrasted with the ridiculously out-of-this-world situations they find themselves in would make Do Not Watch Alone a must watch for 9-13 year olds.

The Episodes

Themes

Twisting plots and heartfelt characters will drive the storylines. Themes of friendship, belonging, growing pains and family will feature heavily, and making sure to have a relatable/likeable protagonist, that we all are rooting for, is key to the central heart of the show. Unique in its handling of hard hitting and topical issues in an accessible way, we want to give our demographic a show that resonates as much as it entertains.

Returnable Viewing

Being an anthology series, each episode is standalone and can be watched in any order with viewers able to jump in at any point and to join the fun, perfect for streaming and today's YouTube audience.

The show will draw its influences from classic monster movies of the past and re-engineer them into more tongue and cheek, kid friendly versions.
For example; in the episode The Substitute the teacher is discovered to be a cyborg which will echo James Cameron's The Terminator. In Night of the Living Laundry the episode will be a parody of a 1950’s B Movie and we will use bad acting and ridiculous setups as comedy springboards.

The Twilight Zone and Tales From The Crypt are obvious examples of supernatural anthology series of a similar vein and we hope to bring the essence of these classics to a new audience.

Using the anthology approach with new stories, settings, characters, and actors for each episode will give us huge scope for diversity and inclusivity within our world building, allowing Do Not Watch Alone to contrast with current dramas and serials that have a standard recurring cast.
